Flex Bus Transportation Rhode Island
Flex Bus Service is a convenient, affordable, in-town transit operated in Narragansett, Woonsocket, West Warwick, Kingston, Island Park/Tiverton, and Westerly. This special transit system is designed to serve suburban and rural communities throughout Rhode Island. One of the most difficult things about staying in the rural areas of Rhode Island is its lack of transportation. No buses run through most of these areas and the taxis don’t even travel that far away from the city. Flex Bus gives you the ability to reserve a ride or board at any one of Flex’s regularly scheduled stops (stops are identified by the yellow Flex logo). This transit also allows you to connect into many of the other RIPTA fixed-route bus services for travel outside the designated areas.
The fares are the same cost and most people prefer the smaller transit then riding the larger buses. In addition, all RIPTA passes are accepted on Flex. These small 16 passenger buses start their schedules around 6 am and run through until about 7 p.m. seven days a week. This is one of the most convenient and most widely used forms of transportation in the state. The Flex service was put into effect to help ease the problematic travel of all visitors and residents staying outside of the larger cities.
The Flex service also offers special transit to all of those traveling with disabilities. Most of the other ways of travel around the state are limited to those that have some form of disability. This transit is equipped with special loading/unloading procedures for the disabled that allow them to travel around more conveniently. One call to the Flex service will schedule a pickup right to your door, thus allowing everyone to enjoy their stay while in Rhode Island.
If you have come to the Ocean State to utilize one of their many institutions of higher learning, then you will want to familiarize yourself with the RIPTA Flex service. This is by far the most convenient way to travel for students as it has limited stops along the way to your destination. The bus service is frequently jam-packed and can take longer in traveling to your university.
Take the time to familiarize yourself with all the different forms of transportation available to you before planning an outing to one of the surrounding areas. It’s very important to know the schedule that all of RIPTA’s services are running on so that you will have a reliable form of transportation home.
